There are a few moments when you really think: I did it, I finally succeeded! Whether you got the career you have always dreamed of, you accomplished a goal you’ve been working towards or you can finally say that you hit a milestone you’ve been aiming for, you have, by your standards, been successful!
Whatever your definition of success it, it is just that YOUR definition. We live in a world where success is seemingly measured for us, there is some mysterious “manual” that everyone keeps in their back pocket, and judged themselves and everyone else by. But that is ridiculous! There is no manual or measurement or definition of success, just like there is no measurement of personality. These things to us are as distinct as the cells that make us up! You CANNOT measure yourself against anyone else, you’ll make yourself sick going round and round.
As a blogger, a writer, an entrepreneur or a dreamer, you are your own support system, your own cheerleader, and your own worst enemy.
We’ve all been there, struggling with the argument of whether we’re “good enough”. Sometimes, actually most of the time, that means late night arguments with ourselves. It means, crying deciding we’re just going to give up. Or, struggling to hit the dreaded “publish” button on our websites. But! We don’t have to do that, because we aren’t anyone else, and we don’t have to be!
Be Proud of Yourself!
If you get one blog post done a year, there is still reason to be proud! Anything from writing a post, to losing a pound, to getting another follower on social media, to getting a comment on your post, are all successes! As little as these things might be in the grand scheme, they are still what success really is.
We measure our own success, and that’s why we need to be proud of ourselves!
I’m right there with you though, I measure myself against everyone else. I look at Pinterest and wonder if I’ll ever get the number of followers I want, or the number of likes I want on an Instagram photo. I sit staring at blank screens, feeling the writers block set in, and go to bed without writing another word. Then I wake up in the morning and feel disappointed that I didn’t publish a post! But I shouldn’t. I like to think I push the people around me to chase their dreams, but sometimes I think I’m not good enough to reach mine. Then I think, no matter what, there is a reason to be proud of myself!
Know What You REALLY WANT!
To learn what success is to you, you need to know what you want. I’m not talking about what you want for breakfast tomorrow, but what you really want! There are things that we want, seemingly down to our very core. We need to push forward and be brave enough to go after them!
The first step to success is figuring our what you really want, and going for it! You got this!
Shoot for the Stars!
Speaking of going for it: JUST GO DO IT! YOU GOT THIS!
There are a million reasons not to do something, but I really believe you only need one to actually try. Failure doesn’t have to be looked at as a bad thing. Even if you don’t end up “exactly” where you want, you will have always learnt, expanded and achieved. You are going to end up where you should be, and maybe on your path to “success”, you might find a alley that leads you the right way!
Never Stop! Learn What Success Really Is For You!
I have so many goals, sometimes I can barely keep track. I love travelling and exploring the world! I am a dreamer, and always have been, and one day I will actually “succeed”, by my own definition. But every single day, I accomplish something! This to me is a #win.
Keep going! Actually run towards what you want, and never look back. You got this!
