Take a second, close your eyes and imagine what you want in life. Imagine what you want to do everyday for the rest of your life, and the things you want to achieve. While you think about these things, think about how you can get there. Now, I know what you are going to say…. “I can’t”…. I’m here to tell you why you CAN! You can actually do anything that you truly set your mind to. Success is all about goals! This post is all about how and why you set those goals! So, we’re going to talk about setting goals that are successful and get you where you want to go!
What Are Goals Exactly?
Let’s talk about goals for a second. Not dreams, not aspirations, not fantasies, but goals. Don’t get me wrong, I’m NOT telling you to give up on your dreams or your aspirations, I’m telling you to turn your dreams into goals and go after them. We live in a society built on dreams that people will never achieve but they keep trying.
Life is full of obstacles, and paths that seem to be paved out for you already. You’re told to go to school, get a degree, get a job, get married, have kids, retire… It is a nice little way to spend a life. But it doesn’t have to be for everyone! YOU GET TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN PATH!

Why Set Goals and Why Stick To Them
So why set goals? That is the question isn’t it?
There is one really good reason to set goals: to reach your dreams!
Reaching your dreams and chasing your aspirations, requires one thing: hard work. Not a little bit of hard work, but gruelling, tiresome, soul crushing hard work. But that how you get anything right? No Olympic medalist, author, tony award winner or nobel laureate got to where they are sitting at home watching Netflix. That might seem a little harsh. But in 5 years when you wish you were somewhere else, you’ll look back and think of the great shows you watched! (I can’t say that isn’t a win).
Why You Need To Get Rid of Excuses!
When you hit your mid-twenties you realize something: most of your supposed “goals” were set for you when you first started kindergarten. Your life would go from school to college to career to family to retirement (hopefully with a nice pension). But what if that’s not what you want?
More and more people are realizing after they finish college that the thing they spent four years studying for, has really gotten them nowhere. Suddenly, they need 10 years of experience for an entry-level job they might not even want. That’s where goal setting comes in, getting rid of excuses and getting off the typical “track of life” can lead you to a place you never imagined you’d be.
Why You Can’t Put Yourself Down If You Mess Up
Before you start choosing goals, you need to remember that you can do anything you set your mind to, and that you need to go with the flow, and give yourself a break sometimes. Look at me, I can’t say that I am perfect. I have a plan to get to where I want to be too. Even with that, I sometimes I take a night off and just binge watch the latest series craze. But then I can’t help but feel a little guilty when I wake up the next morning and realize that I wasn’t a few precious hours.
Where to Start when Setting Goals!
A goal, is the end result you want to achieve.
It’s a simple thing, really, because you know what your goal will be. As easy as it is to write it down, to visualize it, to work towards it, goals don’t work without a plan. So as much as you need to start with your goal, the hard part is getting there.
So sit down, grab a piece of paper, and decide where you want to be! Do it now! 🙂
Map Out How to Get There!
After you have really narrowed down where you want to be, figure out how to get there!
Here are 10 things to consider:
- What do you need to learn?
- What skills do you need to improve?
- What connections do you need to make?
- How can you make connections?
- Where do you need to be?
- Do you need to take a step first?
- If you need money, how are you going to get it?
- Who is there to support you?
- How and why do you need support?
- What is a little thing that you can start doing today to achieve your goal?
Thinking about these things will help you to figure out how you are going to get to your dream.
