I sat down at my computer a couple of days ago and couldn't think of anything to put down on paper, it was the holidays and pure madness at my family's house. I wanted to pump out 20 or so posts over my 5 day break from work, and I failed miserably (this is post 2, yes 2! I wanted to write 18 more!). As someone who is a month out from a book release, works full time, and runs 4 blogs, I have goals that I feel like I consistently fail to meet. I don't fail, I just need to create realistic and tangible goals. I want it all, and want it now, but that isn't realistic. That is why I took a long break from blogging to reassess and reevaluate my intentions and goals. Sometimes, you need to take a break and look at everything from a different angle.
As the End of 2017 Approaches – It's Time to Refocus
As the end of 2017 approaches I'm pretty sure that my brain is about to explode with the amount of knowledge and goals I'm setting for myself in 2018. I think for any blogger, author or entrepreneur, there is a total influx of information coming through from every angle, whether it is social media or it is from Google/ Pinterest searches. It is almost as though, the minute you open the door, you are crushed by an avalanche of information. You have to push the door closed and take a deep breath. Then sometimes you need to sit back, relax and reevaluate, or else you will be crushed by everything, especially your goals.
Take A Second To Reassess
Taking a moment, doesn't need to mean a literal moment. As we near the end of 2017, sometimes taking a day or two can be a great thing to reevaluate your goals. Not only is it time to create new ones for the New Year, but you can also reflect on how your goals went this last year. What has changed? What did you learn this year? What do you want to do this year? What did you do wrong this year? Asking yourself all these questions can help you reassess and really crush your goals.
Remember to Aim For Your Major Goal
There are soooooo so many times as a blogger, influencer, author or entrepreneur when you just need to take a second to reassess. Sometimes, you are pushing towards a goal that when you wrote it down seemed perfect. But as you think about it, your brand, and your long term goals, it no longer seems to be in the right direction. I've found lately that where I wanted to be headed didn't make me happy, and some of my goals were too broad and frankly unattainable. I want to be happy, live freely and get to where I want to go. But some of my short term goals didn't seem to match that long term plan. That is why I think it's crucial for everyone, to sometimes take a step back, reevaluate and change directions.
Keep Pushing Because You Can Do It!
Whether you reached your goals this year, or you didn't come close, there are things you learnt and lessons you took away. Wherever you are, you can do it, and you need to keep at it! This is the time of year to figure out what you want to do, and how you're going to do it! You got this!
I really like this post, Bradlyn. I agree with you; reevaluating is crucial in making sure our short term goals are getting us closer to reaching our long term, big picture ones. It’s good to habitually, purposefully reevaluate so we don’t end up climbing to the top of the wrong ladder.
One of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is to Begin with the End in Mind. But sometimes we need to re-begin too, right?
