So the 2017 Calgary Stampede has come and gone. Yes, you can all cry a little bit… It was an amazing combination of food, rodeo and great country music. You might be wondering why this is a relevant post? Well the only ray of sunshine for this one being over is we get to look forward to the next one! We can already start planning for next year! This is exciting because you can basically plan #summer18 around it. But why do you need to go to the Calgary Stampede in Alberta? I am going to tell you three reasons you need to go to Calgary Stampede at least once in your lifetime! This is definitely a bucket list item!
1. THE FOOD
I don’t actually think I really need to say more than this. But I will. If you’re at all a fan of carnival food, you will be in heaven at the Calgary Stampede. They have THE BEST carnival eats ever. This years fare included amazing things like cotton candy wrapped unicorn cookie dough (YES!) and deep fried pork belly! I know what you’re thinking, that sounds like a great way to have a heart attack. Worth it though right?
2. The Music
There are amazing bands at the Calgary Stampede every year. From big name shows to lesser known acts, everywhere you turn you’ll see someone holding a guitar and singing about their truck (or sometimes heartbreak…). It is a country music lovers dream. So if you’re looking for a great country music place to visit in the summer, go to Calgary Stampede in July 2018!
3. The Rodeo
I think Rodeos are a little cruel. Don’t get me wrong I understand that there are strict regulations about how the animals are treated and I also am by no means a vegetarian. But jumping off a horse onto a baby calf? Hmmm… No matter how you feel about rodeos, grab a cold beer and enjoy watching people get thrown off bulls.
